Discipline: Artificial Intelligence

Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing perceived academic task performance, particularly in academic outputs. In office administration programs, students commonly use AI tools to complete assignments, conduct research, prepare reports, enhance learning activities, and improve overall performance. However, despite its benefits, AI use presents challenges such as over-reliance, reduced critical thinking, data privacy and confidentiality concerns, risk of academic dishonesty and limitations and accuracy issues. This study generally aims to examine the influence of the use of Artificial Intelligence on the task efficiency and perceived academic task performance of Office Administration students. Specifically, this study used a descriptive-correlational research design utilizing quantitative approach. This study used G*power to determine the appropriate sample size of 138 that would ensure proper power for reliable relationship detection. The researcher used stratified random sampling. The findings shows that Office Administration students often use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini, to improve their academic tasks. Students generally agreed that AI tools improve task efficiency by helping them finish tasks faster. They also perceived that AI enhances the quality of their outputs. Significant relationships were found between AI use, task efficiency, and academic task performance. However, concerns about over-reliance on AI, reduced critical thinking, and occasional inaccurate AI-generated information were also revealed, although students generally disagreed with data privacy concerns. Office Administration students should use Artificial Intelligence tools in an ethical way while continuing to think independently. Instructors, QSU administrators, and BSOA Program should support the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence through proper guidance and evaluation. Future studies can further explore how Artificial Intelligence affects the digital skills, motivation and long-term learning.
