Abstract:

This study aimed to create a design, equipped with the technical and economical considerations which would establish efficient and reliable microwave communication link between Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT)-Crossing, Calamba City, Laguna and Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA)-Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda, Silang, Cavite. The design was planned to replace the present 400 MHz radio link into a 7 GHz microwave link to increase the traffic capacity of the link from only 2 voice channels to 4E1, such that not only voice can be transmitted but also audio, video, and other data. The link was designed to have a reliability of 99.99999%.

The study intended to achieve the requirements specified by the client-company and considered all the parameters needed in a microwave communication system. To ensure reliability and efficiency of the system, data gathering procedures, mathematical computations, and simulations were performed.

Based on the computations and analysis between the compared sets of equipment TRuepoint 5200C, MDL 2007/2008, and CFM; TRuepoint Harris 5200C microwave radio equipment, together with Andrew HP 12-71 antenna and a EWP77-71W elliptical waveguide, satisfies all the requirement in selecting the equipment presented in this study. The reliability objective of 99.99999% was achieved after performing several computations. The total project cost of the study was Php 6,847,451.50 and the computed rate of return was 20.81% with a payback period of four years and thirty days which makes it feasible for a study period of five years.
