Abstract:

The study aimed to reduce the operation cost in the Slider Department of YKK Philippines, Inc. caused by its spray paint machine. It specifically aimed to recommend the most economical solution to the problem; compute for the project costs of the alternatives that were presented; and present the best solution in reducing the operation cost of the department.

The study covered the whole painting procedure of the company processed in the Rotary Enameling Slider Machine of the Slider Department. It included the discussion of the existing painting machine of the department and its processes. The reasons of high operation costs in the department were explained in the study and thereby gave solutions to the problem. Computations for each alternative solution were presented to show the best way to reduce the operation cost.

Findings showed that the high operating cost of the Slider Department was because of the small amount of orders processed in the Rotary Enameling Slider Machine. This machine is designed to operate on a large quantity of the slider but due to economic reasons, even a number of small orders, as small as 5-20 pieces, were received by the company. These small orders undergo the same procedure in the same machine, thus, having the same electrical consumptions. To reduce the operating cost of the Slider Department, several aspects were considered specifically the economic and SWOT analyses. Based on these aspects, the current enamelling barrel contributes high operating cost due to the wasted paint discharged during operation and the motor installed in the machine. However, replacing the motor is not economical even though it has a huge effect in terms of electrical cost of the company.

The study recommended the first alternative presented because it is the most economical in reducing the operating cost of the paint machine in the Slider Department.
