Ang Pilosopiya ng Tao

Herminia V. Reyes

Discipline: Philosophy

Abstract:

Long convinced of the ability of Pilipino as an effective medium of expression for Philosophy, Dr. Emerita S. Quito initiated a serious attempt to prove this point by writing the first Philosophy book in Pilipino. This was Ang Pilosopiya sa Diwang Pilipina, dealing with some of man's important questions about himself, God, and the world. In 1974, Quito published her book Ang Kasaysayan ng Pilosopiya. No ordinary history of Philosophy, Ang Kasaysayan ng Pilosopiya does not merely recount the different philosophies from ancient to contemporary times but is an imagined dialogue with the philosophers themselves through their works.

The latest fruit of Quito's efforts is Ang Pilosopiya ng Tao, co-authored with Dr. Romualdo E. Abulad. With the first two books of Quito, Ang Pilosopiya ng Tao becomes only the third book in Philosophy to be written in Pilipino.
