A Summer with Tita Purita

Discipline: Cultural Studies

Abstract:

Tita Purita was born on the Feast of the Purification of Candles, and, like all babies of her generation, her name was decided upon in consultation with the Catholic calendar. And so she was christened Purification Candelaria. Mama was born nine days later, on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. But I didn't know all this until I was twelve, when I spent my summer with Tita Purita. And that was when I got to know her better.
