The Philippine Sugar Industry in Perspective

Luz Paca

Discipline: Economics

Abstract:

Sugar as a traditional export commodity has been closely linked with the U.S. market which preferentially offers a far more attractive price compared to that of the world market thus the country concentrated its marketing efforts in the United States. Sad to say, it resulted in their failure/neglect to develop other potential markets particularly with the approaching expiration of the Laurel-Langley Agreement.
