Modesto P. Sa-onoy

Discipline: History

Abstract:

The history of the sugar industry, of which Negros is the main producer and the nerve center, is one of cyclical prosperity and adversity. The paper describes how the sugar industry in this province developed from a neglected crop into the biggest contributor of foreign exchange to the country. The author of this paper takes the position that the sugar planters have been a much-maligned group. Therefore he tries to place their role in the growth of the sugar industry in its proper perspective.
