The Pinatubo Aytas and the Americans of Clark Air Base: A Case Study of Sociocultural Change

Samuel P. Gaabucayan

Discipline: History

Abstract:

In this study, Gaabucayan shows the adaptive responses of the indigenous Ayta community to the ineradicable presence of an American military installation near the Aytas' legendary home. Gaabucayan clearly indicates the need for the integration of the Aytas into the mainstream of Philippine development, for their involvement in charting their destiny, and for their enjoyment of autonomy in handling their own affairs and problems.
