The Literary Isolate: A Structural Approach to Literature

Jose Javier Reyes

Discipline: Literature

Abstract:

Modern man's desire to objectify his thoughts into precise units ushered "structuralism". It would be a fallacy to claim that structuralism is a philosophy. Michael Lane (I970) describes structuralism as a method for handling questions and ordering raw materials to observed fact in order to answer them. Therefore, it aspires for a systematic manner of breaking down complex matters in their physical or actual forms into their root components, revealing interrelationships, mechanics and principles of unity. Structuralism is a tool for dissecting substances to show that they are integral to an existing system.
