Enhancing The Physical Education Development Program of TIP Manila Based on Student Needs and Preferences

Abstract:

This study dealt with the training needs assessment of Physical Education faculty members of TIP for SY 2007-2008. Adopted in this study was the descriptive survey method of research, since it provided the desired outcome which is to ascertain the objective, factual and unbiased description of functions and processes involved in the assessment of training needs of Physical Education faculty members of TIP Manila and TIP Quezon City Campus.

 The respondents of the study included the Physical Education faculty members of TIP Manila and TIP Quezon City Campus, which was composed of 13 male and 2 female for SY 2007-2008.

The presentation was done in sequential order by which specific questions were discussed. First it determined the socio-demographic profile of the respondents particularly their skills, trainings and seminars attended. The skills and trainings attended were on the areas of dancing, aerobics, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, basketball and volleyball.

The second area of concern in this study was the determination of the strengths and weaknesses of the Physical Education teachers. How they performed in the detailed activities in dancing, gymnastics, aerobics, badminton/table tennis and basketball/volleyball was properly addressed in this study. The third concern covered the training program needs, which were anchored on the sports research, information center trainings and seminars, revision of syllabi and update of curriculum, equipment and facilities.

This study also covered problems encountered by the faculty members in their teaching needs, training opportunities, reference materials, equipment and facilities and space for physical education activities.
