Library Usage And Satisfaction Level Of Faculty And Students In Technological Institute Of The Philippines, Quezon City Campus For Summer 2008

Abstract:

The library usage and satisfaction level of students and faculty members in Technological Institute of the Philippines, Quezon City Campus, were determined in this study. This also looked into the expectations of the students and faculty about the library staff, services, facilities, resources, etc. This study used a comprehensive library user survey with a five-point Liker scale where the respondents rated each statement on the merit of its level of importance, usage and satisfaction on library resources, facilities, services and other matters concerning the Library in TIP-QC. It was found out that most of the students (46.87%) and faculty members (40%) visited/used the library at least once a week. Students regularly used printing and photocopying services, Internet access, Filipiniana, circulation and reserved services while the faculty members regularly used circulation, Filipiniana, library data-based searching, information literacy instruction, and multimedia. Students and faculty members have different motivation/reasons for using the library. Most of the students (83.88%) went to the library to study. Some other reasons for visiting were fir internet access (52.84%), for research purposes (50.45%), to accomplish library-based assignments (50.45%), and to read newspaper (20.60%). Most of the faculty members (76.67%) used the library in aid of instructions, 50% to read the latest books/journals/references in their discipline, 46.67% for research purposes, 46.67 to study, and 43.33% for personal and professional growth. Students considered most of library services, resources, facilities and staff were important but for the faculty, these were very important. Both students and faculty were moderately satisfied with most TIP-QC library services and resources. Faculty members were satisfied with the library facilities and environment whereas most students were moderately satisfied with them. With regards to library staff, faculty members were satisfied with them while the students were moderately satisfied. Students and faculty looked for further improvements on library resources, staff and services. More books and modernization of library facilities were among their suggestions to improve the services and facilities of library. Among other suggestion were an exclusive area in the library for faculty members, more computers/work stations, online reservation, a place for group study, library staff must be more friendly and accommodating.
