The Iluko Traditional Chant in the Life Cycle

Mary Lou F. Aurelio

Abstract:

Iloko folk music or traditional music to be presented here is a splendid evidence that the Ilocanos have their own pristine, autochthonous, indigenous music even before the period of hispanization. Documented in print and non-print forms, this music research project is presented from as broad a perspective as possible not only to revive, transmit, document a dying tradition of a more Edenic time but also to identify our Iloko traditional chants or music. Further, this is in line with the general provisions of the Philippine Constitution, Article XIV, Sec. 14, which states that the Senate shall foster the preservation, enrichment, and dynamic evolution of a Filipino culture.
