Does Religion Impede Progress?

Abstract:

The book is a compilation of the papers discussed during the conference on "Cultural Motivations to Progress in South and Southeast Asia" held in Manila in 1963 under the joint sponsorship of the Congress for Cultural Freedom and the University of the Philippines. Robert N. Bellah who is currently a professor of Sociology and Regional Studies at Harvard served as editor by providing a summary of the' discussions as well as an epilogue which he candidly admitted to be no more than a personal retrospective essay on the conference.
