Establishing a Global Village through SEPP at Zhejiang Gongshang University

Abstract:

In the context of surging economic globalization, more and more universities attach great importance to students’ international interaction. One purpose of school administration’s devoting more attention to their students’ international interaction is to raise their students’ awareness of cultural diversity and, thus, help prepare them for their future professions and for international cooperation. In this paper, the author introduces Zhejiang Gongshang University’s (ZJGSU) Spoken English Promotion Project (SEPP) and shares ZJGSU’s experience in establishing “a global village” within the university. The creation of such a “global village” mainly involves inviting students from various countries to participate in SEPP which aims not only to help them improve their ability in spoken English, but also allow them share different cultures, values and traditions.
