Abstract:

Informed by social constructionist perspective, this critical discourse analysis

study explores and surfaces the subtle power operating in the selection and presentation

of themes in Philippine newspapers. It examines the presentation and organization of

news about media’s role in the unsuccessful rescue of victims in one hostage taking

incident in Manila, Philippines.
