Abstract:

Most of the students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, San Pedro campus belongs to a poor and middle-class family. Most of them struggle in life especially in getting a low cost but quality education. Studying in PUP is not that easy, for student’s faces different adversities. This study analyzed the adversity quotient and intelligence quotient of the students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, San Pedro Campus. The principal aim of this research is to determine the relationship of adversity quotient and its four dimensions to the intelligence quotient of 383 sample students who are selected using pure random sampling. Findings revealed that the four dimensions of adversity quotient namely control, ownership, reach, and endurance have a weak linear relationship to intelligence quotient. Furthermore, the adversity quotient has an insubstantial linear relationship to intelligence quotient. Sufficient evidence showed that of the four dimensions of adversity quotient, control and ownership are significantly related to intelligence quotient. As a whole, the study yielded a significant relationship between adversity quotient and intelligence quotient.
