Abstract:

The amount of sediments in streams is an indicator of water quality. Although, sediments are a natural component of streams, it should be assessed, monitored and controlled to prevent the destruction of the aquatic environment. This study sought to determine if there is a significant difference in the sediments quantities of Davao River between 2001 and 2003. This quasi-experimental study using Interrupted Time-Series established the occurrence of soil erosion of the river during the selected periods. The DPWH data on gage height and discharge taken from the reading station along Lacson bridge readings were converted to sediment concentration using the sediment-rating curve. The result of this study will serve as a reference for the formulation, legislation, and implementation of policies and laws that will safeguard the Davao river environment.
