Social networking sites, specifically Facebook.com can be an effective medium in promoting the advocacies of different political candidates. This conclusion is based on the perceived effect of the voting preferences of first time voters as shown in the different advocacies of the three presidential candidates posted in the Facebook for the May, 2010 elections. Fifty-three first-time voters from the different colleges of Trinity University of Asia were surveyed on their perception of the different advocacies posted on facebook.com and how these advocacies have influenced their voting preferences. To give substance to the result of the
survey, 12 students were selected for interview.Â
The study concluded that social networking sites can influence the voting preferences of first-time voters.
