Discipline: Education

Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the extent of communication competence among Grade 5 learners in Mallig District in English, which will serve as a basis for designing and implementing contextualized learning activities. When applied to the learning process, these activities will enable learners to understand the English language and achieve mastery and communicative competence. The research employed the descriptive survey method in conducting the study. This method of research focused on the present phenomena in terms of conditions, practices, beliefs, processes, relationships, or trends. The researcher also used standardized teacher-made tests to measure the level of competence of the learner-respondents. This research utilized the Raosoft calculator to get the desired number of respondents, a chi-square test, and linear regression to check the level of independence and significance of the variables in the study. The study's results revealed a low or negative outcome, which supports the goal of this study to develop contextualized learning activities tailored to the learner-respondents.
