Abstract:
TikTok's widespread presence on social media has provided a platform to enhance students' English presentation
skills. This action research evaluated the effectiveness of TikTok's duet feature in enhancing the extemporaneous
speaking skills of grade 11 students at a public secondary school in Mandaue City during the 2024-2025 school year,
specifically the second semester. This inquiry employed a mixed-method action research design. Using a mixedmethods action research design, the study involved 20 senior high school students selected through purposive
sampling. Quantitative data revealed a statistically significant improvement in participants' scores from pre-test to
post-test. Quantitative data revealed a statistically significant difference between the participants' pre-test and posttest scores. Qualitative data revealed six opportunities, including quick thinking and confidence boosts, reduced
anxiety and practice in a safe space, interactivity and creativity, low pressure and a fun factor, reduced fear of mistakes
and self-correction, and comfort in speaking alone. On the other hand, there are five challenges, such as technical
glitches and lag, time pressure and mistakes, distractions and frustration, time constraints and pressure, and difficulty
in maintaining coherence. The study concludes that the duet feature of TikTok enhances students' confidence and
speaking skills by offering an engaging platform for real-time responses. It allows them to practice extemporaneous
speaking in a creative, low-pressure environment.
